ShopperTrak, traffic, retail, business analytics, mothers dayShopperTrak recognizes what all too often gets sometimes gets lost that Mother's Day is one of the busiest retail events of the year. Retailers that are not thinking about the increased shopper traffic and meeting the demands of more shoppers in their stores will miss out on the opportunity to convert these extra shoppers into sales.

ShopperTrak – the world leader in people counting technology and foot traffic analysis – helps companies around the world optimize their operations to maximize sales and profits – for Mother's Day and all other days throughout the year.   More than 60,000 ShopperTrak managed people counting and foot traffic devices are in operation across 95 countries and territories.

An American invention, Mother's Day is observed in many nations, on a date in either March, April, or May. Mother's Day in the U.S. is observed every year on the second Sunday in May; this year it is on May 12.

Mother's Day is one of the busiest days of the year in terms of shopper traffic, trailing only the holiday and back-to-school seasons and on par with Valentine's Day.

Shopper traffic starts ramping up considerably with one week to go to Mother's Day as consumers focus shopping for gifts for their mothers.

ShopperTrak expects that shopper traffic for the week before Mother's Day will be on par with last year with a year over year increase in sales of about 1.5%.  The week over week increase in traffic for the week before Mother's Day will be approximately 12% higher than the previous week.  So retailers need to make sure that they have enough staff to cover the increased shopper traffic for the week.

As in years past, most people buying Mother's Day presents will purchase flowers, greeting cards, apparel, jewelry, dinners, and electronics.

Retailers should be aware of – and plan and act accordingly – to respond to last minute shoppers   “scrambling” and “rushing” to buy a gift for mom. Get in front of these consumers and offer them a solution for their frenzied gift shopping excursions.

For the Mother's Day shopping period, many companies across the U.S. will be using the data they receive from ShopperTrak people counting and foot traffic devices, and the analysis and advice the ShopperTrak team delivers, to better serve customers and do better business.
